CYCLING IN THE HIMALAYAS

THE BEST OF CYCLING TRIPS IN THE HIMACHAL HIMALAYAS
Mountain Biking “Riding the Himalaya”
Mountain bikes offer a glorious and unique way to travel in the Himalaya. Cycling provides the ideal pace to absorb the changes all around, while still allowing you to cover plenty of ground. Cycling is the best way to meet the locals and, as with hiking and trekking, is the perfect low impact, eco friendly way of traveling, with the adventure still running high. Mountain biking trips can be either self supported, in which you travel independently, or and fully supported, in which we provide a support vehicle that follows your trail and carries your gear, allowing you to travel with comfort, at a premium). Whether self-supported or fully-supported, we expect you to bring your own bike and spares. We can provide a bike for you if you request in advance. We provide you with maps, safety gear, camping tents and general tips.

TREKKING - OUR PICKS

THE BEST TREKS IN HIMACHAL PRADESH
Exploring the world on foot “Hiking & Trekking adventures”
The words “trekking” and “hiking” are used somewhat interchangeably, but a trek more often refers to a long distance walk along age-old trails, usually in remote areas far from roads or highways. How many miles we walk each day depends on the terrain, especially in the mountains where there are a lot of ups and downs or we take it slowly because of high altitude. We generally characterize the hiking day in terms of hours. On most treks, we hike from four to six hours a day (with an occasional eight hour day). We start early, have a long lunch stop, and arrive at the next camp by mid afternoon, with time to rest and relax before dinner, explore nearby villages, read or write in our journals. During the day, there is ample time to stop and take photos, admire a view, search for an elusive bird. Above all we encourage you to walk at your own pace. You’re here to have fun! On most trips, porters, pack animals or vehicles carry all the gear. All you need to carry is a small daypack to hold a water bottle, camera and sweater/jacket.

HIMALAYAN ROADTRIPS (MOTORCYCLING AND SAFARI)

On Safari “Road Trippin, Jeeps & Enfield Bullets”
Our Roadtrips offer you an authentic experience of the Himalayas in comfort and security, without being insulated from the natural world you came to explore. We emphasize active explorations, including walking trips and hikes from the base camp. Most of our safari tours are customized allowing you to explore the many facets of numerous destinations. We generally travel in rugged “go anywhere” vehicles that allow us to roam the countryside in total freedom. A typical day on a safari is not longer than 150 kms a day, with some exceptions where we may travel 300 kms in a day. Distance by safari, as by trekking, depends on the terrain.

SHIMLA - HIKES, CYCLING AND MORE

HIKES, CYCLING, CULTURE, HISTORY, MUSIC, FOOD – ALL SUPERB EXPERIENCES WHILE YOU ARE IN SHIMLA
Perhaps a near perfect setting for exploring the Himalaya Shimla is situated in the North-West Himalayas and is spread over the ridge measuring about 12 km. The hills are robed with dense forests of oak, deodar, pine, fur and rhododendron. The high mountain peaks, steep slopes, deep valleys, waterfalls, rapids and colorful natural flowers form the scenic natural beauty of Shimla attracts tourists from all over the world. With its enticing location, the surrounding Shivalik foothills and the Higher Himalayas not too far, some of the worlds’ first trekking agencies were set up here, offering treks to officers and their families. By 1921, Shimla had a branch of the Himalayan Club which assisted with expeditions across the Western Himalaya. These adventurous Victorian colonialists chose their town well. To the north and north-east lies the Great Himalayan Range dividing the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. Slightly to the west are the Dhauladhar, cutting through the heart of Himachal Pradesh into eastern Uttaranchal. And beyond these mountains lie the complex Trans Himalaya that include the Zanskar and Ladakhi ranges.

  • I recently did the Offbeat Himachal Road trip with the Being Out There team. Impeccable services, with attention to the small details and best chosen route and accomodations through out. Goes to show the amount of research they put into their trips. Will be joining them for their popular cycling trips soon. The best was the connection i shared with the team and that sense of belonging they worked hard for. kudos!
